Income-tax season is when a working doctor notices the year was lived in three places: the hospital roster, the channelling centre, and a camera roll of receipts. The return itself is your adviser’s job. Your job is to arrive with records that match the year you actually worked.
Sri Lankan filing dates move; confirm the current deadline with IRD or your accountant. This page does not quote a due date as a promise, and it does not walk you through a return. It lists what to gather so the meeting is shorter.
Pack this, not a suitcase of paper
- Channeling payouts by workplace, with dates and amounts you entered.
- Other professional income you recorded (private work, teaching, locum).
- Practice expenses with receipt images where you have them.
- AIT/WHT certificates, or a written list of which hospitals are still outstanding.
- A ledger export — CSV on Free, or the Pro auditor pack if you use that plan.
Free, Pro, and what “tax” means in the app
On MyTracksy Doctor, income, expenses, channeling and the WHT checklist are on Free. Tax & IRD planning, Reports and Auditor Export require Pro. Those Pro tools organise figures and produce files for review. They do not submit a return, pay IRD, or tell you the tax you owe.
A calm month-by-month version
If you only open the app in November, you will hate it. If you spend ten minutes after the last clinic of the week, tax season is a review, not an excavation. Record payouts when they land. Photograph receipts the day you pay. Tick certificates when they arrive. Export once a month if your accountant prefers a drip of files instead of one November archive.
New to the workspace? Practise on fictional data in the doctor demo, then install the phone app from the Medical install guide. The Medical user guide compares Free and Pro in full.
